Dress to Impress: The Roblox Revolution

People all around the world are becoming fashion icons with the click of a button. Their fashion status may only count on Roblox, but it counts nonetheless. Known as Dress to Impress (accessed through the video game Roblox), it is taking the media by storm. The aim of the game is to dress your avatar to the given theme, and then vote on other’s outfit; the highest score wins. Not only is the game successful due to its fun and diverse concept, but it also offers an easy way to play a game with friends. Themes range from “Beach Day” to “Monochrome”, hitting every aspect a player could want. Offering a global interaction, Dress to Impress is a good way to show your creative side while also interacting with others. But, focusing locally, many students (and teachers!) at Blacksburg High School know and enjoy Dress to Impress. 

Students not only enjoy Dress to Impress because of the fun outfits they can create, but also because of the competitive aspect it offers. “I like it because I feel like everybody can be honest with your ranking. I think it is a great way to show honesty and improve your Dress to Impress skills.” Maria Addikis said when asked about why she enjoys Dress to Impress. The game can foster student’s competitive edge and their integrity, as the voting system encourages honesty and constructive criticism. Not only is this a useful skill in life, but benefits students in school, too. Addikis additionally said, “I feel like I’m taking the focus of the game into the classroom.” From being able to focus during a stressful situation like a test to simply locking in on a group project, focusing is an extremely helpful skill to have. Being able to focus on the Dress to Impress theme has helped students at Blacksburg High School also focus on school assignments. 

However, not all students at Blacksburg High School participate in Dress to Impress. “I have never played Dress to Impress, but I have heard of it. I’ve also seen lots of marketing for it on TikTok and other social media.” Hannah Martin said. While not every student plays Dress to Impress, many have heard of it. The impact the game has is local (and global), as many people hear about the game. Not everybody participates, but many have heard about the exciting Roblox game.  

The outreach can be contributed to the game being fun, but also to the marketing. “I’ve only vaguely heard about it through TikTok and my students,” said Mrs. Webb (a teacher at Blacksburg High School). Not everybody has directly played or enjoyed Dress to Impress, but may have heard about it through the grapevine. Dress to Impress has spread majorly through social media, where viewers watch other people play the game. Additionally, the themes of the game help keep it relevant. The 2024 summer was coined “Brat Summer” after the album released by Charlie XCX, and Dress to Impress was redesigned to match the color scheme and themes. This was done majorly to stay on trend, and it worked. The marketing of Dress to Impress has helped the game be spread tenfold of what it would be without it. 

The Roblox game Dress to Impress has taken some of the internet and students at Blacksburg High School by storm. This can be attributed to many things, but mainly to the creative experience the game offers as well as the on trend marketing. The game has 2,452,241,985 total plays, which shows how large its influence has gotten over the years. The entertainment the game offers consists of amusing themes, pretty costumes, diverse make-up, and lively voting. Many students at Blacksburg High School enjoy the competition the game offers, as well as the enjoyment it brings them. While not everyone plays, or even knows, about Dress to Impress, many have heard about it. Through Dress to Impress, many have found a relaxing and exciting game to play and let their creative side loose.
