MCPS will be offering free meals to six of its schools for students who qualify

Six schools within MCPS will offer free meals to students for this upcoming 2023-2024 school year. These six schools include Eastern Montgomery Elementary, Shawsville Middle, Eastern Montgomery High, Prices Fork Elementary, Falling Branch Elementary, and Montgomery Central. Families of the students who go to these various schools do not have to fill any paperwork out before receiving free meals. The six schools enrolled in the program were determined eligible by the Virginia Department of Education.

This is a positive thing for these select Montgomery County schools because it gives all of the children equal opportunity to have a full tray of food at lunch. When these students become well fed they learn better.

With this said any student within Montgomery County Schools can request for reduced or free lunches. Students apply for this request through mcps.org/departments/school-nutrition.

Pricing Information (for every school excluding the six schools offering free meals) According to MCPS on their website

Regular school lunch prices are $3.00 for elementary school students and $3.10 for secondary school students. A full-price meal for an adult will be $4.25 this coming school year. A full meal within MCPS public schools consists of an entree, a side, and a fruit or vegetable. Milk in all meals will be an additional 0.75$ for students and adults.
